Lawmakers aim to thwart college tuition rates for Va. immigrants

WASHINGTON — Two state lawmakers are taking on Virginia’s attorney general when it comes to some undocumented immigrants getting in-state tuition rates.

The lawmakers are both Republicans from Loudoun County,  , and
.

Each have pre-filed bills for the new Virginia General Assembly session, which starts Jan. 14. Both measures would stop undocumented immigrants who fall under the president’s  from paying in-state tuition rates  for Virginia state colleges and universities.

Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring, a Democrat, issued a directive last year allowing these undocumented immigrants to pay in-state tuition rates as long as are able to prove they currently reside in the state.

It is likely  Governor Terry McAuliffe would veto such a measure if it were to pass.
