WASHINGTON 鈥 鈥楾is the season for potholes, and a big one near the Pentagon caused a lot of trouble for drivers this past Saturday.
鈥淲e were headed to a bar in Arlington,鈥 said Brian Taylor. 鈥淎ll of [a] sudden, this humongous pothole. I hit it with my passenger鈥檚 side. Immediately, flat tire.鈥
Taylor said he was trying to merge into traffic near the Pentagon when it happened.
鈥淚 look at the back tire and sure enough, it鈥檚 flat, too,鈥 he recalled.
The pothole claimed two other cars and caught the attention of Pentagon Police. The area isn鈥檛 federal property, but when vehicles drive across that stretch, an officer is sent there to ensure there鈥檚 no risk.
Taylor says he filed a claim for the tires with the Virginia Department of Transportation. The tires cost him more than $500 and he missed watching the game with his daughter.
鈥淚t does help for drivers to let us know where those bad potholes are so we can get to those,鈥 said Jennifer McCord, a VDOT spokeswoman.
Taylor said he saw the pothole was filled on Monday.
