Virginia State Police investigate nonfatal shooting by deputy sheriff

WINCHESTER, Va. — Virginia State Police say they are investigating a nonfatal shooting by a Frederick County deputy sheriff.

State Police Sgt. F.L. Tyler says deputies responded to a 911 call Sunday morning about an armed man threatening suicide in the county’s Clear Brook area. Tyler says the man fired at the deputies but missed. A deputy returned fire, striking the subject.

The man was transported to Winchester Medical Center with a serious but non-life threatening wound.

State police are investigating.
