WASHINGTON 鈥 The Washington Capitals lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 Thursday night, but the opening game of the Eastern Conference semifinals brought in late-night legend David Letterman to the Verizon Center.
The former host of Late Night and The Late Show sported no attire that would peg him as rooting for either team, but Letterman鈥檚 long, white beard likely made a statement for the Caps鈥 Beard-A-Thon.
In fact, Letterman did root for the Caps and he went to Ball State University in Indiana with captain Alex Ovechkin.
As for the Capitals, they weren鈥檛 feeling so good about a game in which they didn鈥檛 have a single power play.
Pittsburgh went 0 for 2 with the man advantage, but Trotz thought there were opportunities for his team to get at least one chance.
鈥淣o penalties against their side,鈥 Ovechkin said. 鈥淵ou just have to fight through it.鈥

The Capitals outshot the Penguins 35-21 鈥 Holtby made 18 saves and Fleury was the difference. With Game 2 in Washington on Saturday night, Bonino knows it will be difficult to take a 2-0 series lead with the same showing.
鈥淚 think we can play better,鈥 Bonino said. 鈥淭here鈥檚 no perfect games. I think we weathered their storm there. I think we鈥檙e happy to get the win, but they played a great game and we know they鈥檙e going to get better too, so we鈥檝e got to match that.鈥
