WASHINGTON 鈥� The Burgundy and Gold reportedly have a new franchise quarterback: Multiple sources report that the Kansas City Chiefs have traded Alex Smith to the Redskins.
Smith, 33, has scrambling ability as well as a reputation for protecting the ball. This past season, he threw for 4,042 yards and 26 touchdowns.
(The Chiefs made the playoffs but were bounced in the first round.)
, the Chiefs will get a third-round pick and cornerback Kendall Fuller as part of the trade.
ESPN reported that the two-time Pro-Bowler, who still has a year left on his existing contract, has agreed to a four-year contract extension with Washington. The deal won’t be official until the league begins its new year on聽March 14.
Smtih was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft. He played seven seasons for the San Francisco 49ers before they traded him to the Chiefs in 2013.
