WASHINGTON — Shortly after finding his name in the news after talks of his eventual free agency resurfaced around the Winter Meetings, Bryce Harper made headlines for happier reasons this weekend.
The Nationals outfielder married his longtime girlfriend, Kayla Varner, in a Mormon ceremony in San Diego.
Harper鈥檚 teammates Jayson Werth and Trea Turner were both in attendance, as was . Former teammate Ian Desmond was also one of Harper鈥檚 groomsmen, along with Werth.
The timing of the ceremony helps further explain Harper鈥檚 absence from the team鈥檚 offseason fan event held the weekend prior, which Varner referenced in a since-deleted tweet.
