WASHINGTON — Shortly after finding his name in the news after talks of his eventual free agency resurfaced around the Winter Meetings, Bryce Harper made headlines for happier reasons this weekend.
The Nationals outfielder married his longtime girlfriend, Kayla Varner, in a Mormon ceremony in San Diego.
Harper’s teammates Jayson Werth and Trea Turner were both in attendance, as was . Former teammate Ian Desmond was also one of Harper’s groomsmen, along with Werth.
The timing of the ceremony helps further explain Harper’s absence from the team’s offseason fan event held the weekend prior, which Varner referenced in a since-deleted tweet.
