Monday morning temperatures began in the 40s and will climb into the mid to upper 50s in the afternoon. A cold front moving through the D.C. region will bring thicker clouds, a few spotty sprinkles and a gusty northwest breeze. Skies will clear in the evening, setting the stage for a much colder night. A Weather Alert is in effect Monday night as low temperatures are expected to drop below freezing in many spots.
Be sure to bring in or cover plants, protect pets and take steps to prevent frozen pipes. If skies stay clear, conditions may also be favorable for viewing a few shooting stars, as the Lyrid meteor shower peaks over the next couple of nights.
After a frosty start Tuesday morning, sunshine returns and temperatures rebound modestly, making for a pleasant spring afternoon.
A stronger warmup arrives midweek with increasing clouds and a chance for showers Wednesday, followed by sunshine and above-average warmth on Thursday.
