Washington Spirit switches up team colors, unveils new 2024 kits

The Washington Spirit are bringing a new look and color to the 2024 season.

The National Women’s Soccer League team unveiled its new home and away kits Tuesday, featuring its new team colors: yellow and black. The color pattern is a departure from other D.C.-based professional sports teams, which traditionally include red, white and blue.

Washington’s primary jersey, nicknamed the Blackout, features a gray and black pattern representing the “bridging the communities within DC, Maryland and Virginia,” according to a news release. It will be worn predominantly at home.

The biggest change is Washington’s away kit. Nicknamed the Spotlight, the entire uniform is vibrant yellow and will be “unmissable” on the road, Chief Operating Officer Theresa McDonnell said in a statement.

The yellow away kit also hints at the Spirit’s upcoming rebrand that owner Michele Kang announced last year. The Spirit, which began its existence wearing red, white and blue, switched to white, black and chrome for the 2023 season. Washington plans to finish its full rebrand by 2025, according to a news release.

“These kits are inspired by Michele’s vision,” McDonnell said of the new jerseys. “They represent what we want to embody as a club on and off the pitch — trailblazing, energy and dominating.”

The kits also include the return of Snickers as the Spirit’s sleeve sponsor. On Monday, the club announced an sponsorship deal with the candy brand’s distributor and McLean, Virginia-based Mars . ²ÝÝ®´«Ã½ first reported the “soft launch” of the partnership last season, which made Snickers the Spirit’s third jersey sponsor.

Washington’s other two jersey sponsors, and also return for the 2024 season. Online banking company Ally  as part of a leaguewide deal.
