PHOTOS: World Series excitement hits home for DC

In the neighborhoods that surround Nationals Park, there鈥檚 growing excitement over the prospect of a World Series championship for hometown heroes the Nationals.

At the King Greenleaf Recreation Center just blocks from the ballpark, D.C. native Kenny, who goes by 鈥淐hicken Bob,鈥 said he鈥檚 enjoying the excitement. And he鈥檚 not a bandwagon fan 鈥 he showed off his Nationals tattoo: a big curly 鈥淲鈥 with the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol in the background spreads across his chest.

鈥淚 used to attend the games before the stadium was here 鈥 I attended the games at the old RFK stadium.鈥 He said he got the tattoo in 2011. 鈥淚 just got the tattoo just because I love my city so much. I just had to.鈥

He said he鈥檚 considering adding tattoos of other D.C. teams 鈥 except for one. 鈥淚 hate the Redskins,鈥 he said. 鈥淭hey don鈥檛 play in D.C.! They don鈥檛 play in my city.鈥

Around the corner from the rec center, 15-year-old Davis Johnson and his dad explained they flew in from Rhode Island to catch the games. How did a teenager from Rhode Island become a die-hard Nats fan?

鈥淚 originally started watching them because of Bryce Harper 鈥 I just liked the way he played 鈥 I liked how he always played hard,鈥 Johnson said. And after Harper left the Nationals, Johnson said he stuck with his team. 鈥淚鈥檝e been watching them for so long.鈥

Like other fans, he was disappointed the Nats didn鈥檛 take Game 3.

鈥淭hey鈥檝e just got to have approaches at the plate, I guess. They鈥檝e just got to have a better idea of what they want to do.鈥 He鈥檚 got his fingers crossed for a World Series championship for his adopted team.

Just across from the ballpark, there鈥檚 a liquor store on the corner, an old style shop plastered with ads on specials and neon signs. Jackie Lam runs the shop, and business is booming with the World Series. He was too busy to talk, but posed for a second in his red Nationals shirt.

Outside the store, Tracey Adams, a D.C. native, is on her way to work at the concessions at Nationals Park. She beamed when the team is mentioned.

鈥淚鈥檓 over the top!鈥 She said. 鈥淚鈥檓 so happy just to make it where we made it is a blessing. If we win it all, I will be so excited!鈥

She won鈥檛 be alone in her excitement.
