It鈥檚 an obscure D.C. Monument dedicated to an often-debated form of medicine and its founder.
In today鈥檚 episode of “Matt About Town,” 草莓传媒鈥檚 Matt Kaufax takes us to Scott Circle in Northwest D.C. 鈥 to the Samuel Hahnemann statue.
Hahnemann, a German physician, is credited with founding the system of alternative medicine called homeopathy. But the validity of the science behind homeopathy has been questioned by many in the medical community for hundreds of years.
Today, there are still millions worldwide who practice homeopathy. But because of the controversy surrounding the practice, this monument 鈥 located near Massachusetts Avenue, Rhode Island Avenue and 16th Street NW 鈥 was almost never constructed.
Come along with Matt, and recurring “MAT” guest National Parks Ranger Mike Litterst, to find out why that all changed when William McKinley became the 25th U.S. president in 1897.
